Photogram research
Christian Schad- Christian Schad (21 August 1894 – 25 February 1982) was a German painter and photographer. He was manly know for the Dada (collage techniques in artwork, which involved placing objects from completely different contexts together in one composition) and the New Objectivity movements. Considered as a group, Schad's portraits form a well documented record of life in Vienna and Berlin in the years following World War I. In 1919, while living in Geneva, Christian Schad created his own version of shadowgraphs doing this by exposing flat objects. Another technique he used was called camera-less photography. The most common technique of camera-less photography is the photogram, which means that encompasses all images made simply by the contact of objects on light-sensitive surfaces.

Man Ray- Was a American visual artist who spent most of his life in Paris. Some of the photograms he made were weak and were not completely visible however after putting it through other process they have come out well as you can see on the right. My favourite one is the one in the bottom right as this one has a strong darker object in the middle and littler objects around it. This makes the viewer focus on the darker object at first however the lighter object comes in to view and it not clear on what it is.

Laszlo Moholy-Nagy- Was a significant painter, graphic artist, teacher and photographer at the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau. The photogram you can see on the right (the hand) demonstrates an interesting overlapping and layering of objects, creating a successful use of tones. This piece (the hand) was created in 1926 and is a gelatine silver print. Making pieces with light sensitive paper means that you can have many different shapes on the paper.

Transparenencies experiments
These are my test photos so that I can test the exposure times an the aperture i used for all the pictures was 5.5 one to the right. I used various transparent objects including medium format negatives.
I put it under the time for 5 seconds at first however it came out to dark so I change the time and then I put it under the light for 3 seconds.

Final piece
To make my final piece I had to do some test print to find the right aperture which I decided was f/5.6 and to see how long I should expose it for which I decided was 4 seconds. I did this on a smaller pieces on the light sensitive paper. I then did my final piece on A4 paper with 2 overlays a piece of string and for one of the photograms that I made I used the top of a jar.
Lines and trees
For this I had to pick only two pictures. One from the lines and one from the trees. We had to print them off on to paper then we had to put it on to acetate which is turn we layered both of the pictures on a blue cyanotype then left them in the sun for about 30 minutes. After this we have to wash them in water and bleach and then used the stickiness on the water to stick the pictures to the wall.
Lumen prints
A lumen print is an easy way to make a image from sun light. To make these lumen prints I had to pick some flowers and leaves to put over the lumen paper. After this I put the flowers and leaves into arrangement that I liked. Then I had to put it in to a frame and put it in to sun light for 1 week. You can see the end result on the right. The colouring of the picture came out well. However next time I would change the way I have ordered the flowers and leaves. I used flowers because it would not be a lumen print if not.
