Looking at his work made him uncomfortable and brought up negative emotions. He struggled with how his father was presented in relation to his work. He dealt with his issues which had surfaced while displaying his family in his art he did this by watching home videos. He then used elements of his past in his photographs. Sultan was able to build a further connection with his parents through using his parents as subjects in his work as he commented on their relationship. Threshold concepts 6 and 10 relate to Sultans work in my option. 6 "photographers have their own visual language and grammar." and 10 which I believe is more important "Photographs warp our sense of time; they remind us of things lost".

Larry Sultan pictures
This photo is very interesting as the man is playing golf however the man is inside. This already makes the viewer in Instantly engaged in the photo as it is an unusual thing to see a man playing golf inside, as it is usually not possible. The area he is in is also very strange as it looks like he is standing on artificial grass inside. The TV in the background of a picture gives her with a view of the time when this picture might have been taken as the TV is quite old. Larry Sultan has framed the picture so that we can see the entire golf club to make it 100% apparent to the audience that he is attempting to play golf. The light that is being used in this picture complete the natural light and brightens his upper body while his legs are in shadow.

Olivia Arthur
Olivia Arthurs work has a real sense of family and what is important to her as through her projects you can see very personal pictures of her family and of herself in times of which people tend not to share. Her work focuses a lot on the shadow and light and dark. We can see this throughout her Magnum photos project. In this project, she document her pregnancy and before and after the birth of her child. The project is called “Waiting for Lorelei” and it goes through her pregnancy and the differences and the changes that go come with pregnancy. As you can see on the right the picture is of the birth of her daughter seconds after being born this picture is I think one of the most personal picture you can share with people. This I think shows best what Olivia’s Arthurs work is all about. It is about the fact of understanding and showing people the beauties of family and that a home is not just a building.

Sequencing for exhibition
After speaking to my teacher we came up with the idea of taking photos through a window with something that is concealing it or making the full picture unclear as this gives a real sense of wanting to find out what is being concealed.
Downtown by Richard Koci Hernandez
I thought this book was very interesting and I enjoyed how all the pictures are in black and white. I like how the pictures are taken without the people in the picture knowing as it gives the picture a sense of realism. When taking my picture I like to take pictures in black and white and also the side of not knowing the people and they storys. This gives me as the photographer a feeling of wanting to know where a person is going and so forth. Richard Hernandez work is a lot about not knowing and seeing some of what is being photographed.
Exhibition
I chose to have my exhibition in my living room as it has the best light at the end of the day. This room also has a light right above where my pictures have been put on the floor. Which for some of the pictures I took of my exhibition I used the light. I tried to use the light to show more of the pictures that you can not see as well.
